Toho Water Authority acquires site for irrigation water treatment plant

Toho Water Authority (Toho) recently acquired a new site off U.S. 192 (Vine Street) near NeoCity in Kissimmee for the ongoing Toho Reservoir Surface Water Treatment Facility project. The site, purchased from Boggy Creek LLC, will be a surface water treatment plant to treat water from the neighboring 400-million-gallon reservoir that was constructed between 2017-2021.

Construction is anticipated to begin in 2024

The surface water treatment facility will allow Toho to provide a sustainable alternative water supply option for irrigation services and also includes the ability to add processes to treat surface water to potable standards if needed in the future. Up to 6 million gallons of water per day will be treated onsite in this phase of the project. Construction is anticipated to begin in 2024.

In development in 2011, planning and permitting for the reservoir occurred between 2014 and 2017.

While originally planned for a site on the western side of the reservoir, this land purchase allows Toho more flexibility in its site layout and provides an opportunity to expand treatment capacity or treat water to potable standards if needed in the future.

“This site for the Toho Reservoir Surface Water Treatment Facility is an improved location that provides us flexibility to plan for the future,” said Toho Executive Director Todd Swingle.  “Toho would like to thank the community for its patience and feedback regarding the surface water treatment facility planning process. Toho is excited to see this project moving toward fruition.”
