Monitoring types and what to expect
Expand AllOnce every three months, our technician will collect a water sample from an outside faucet at the residential home. Following DEP requirements, the faucet is flushed for at least two minutes before the sample is taken. This clears out any debris or standing water that may be in the pipe. On site, the water is first tested for chlorine levels. A sample is then collected for microbiological monitoring and taken to the lab for analysis. Microbiological testing monitors for pathogens such as bacteria and viruses. Microbiological monitoring is conducted to ensure the water supply is compliant with state and federal guidelines.

Once every three years, our technician will leave a collection kit at your home for lead and copper monitoring. The kit will be in a white bag with our logo on it. Follow the instructions to take a water sample from a faucet inside the home. Once you have collected the sample, please place it in the provided bag and leave it just outside your front door. The technician will collect it the following day for lab analysis. The test monitors for possible presence of lead and copper in a home’s water supply due to a property’s plumbing materials. It is conducted to ensure the water supply is compliant with state and federal guidelines.

Addresses stay on the monitoring schedule usually indefinitely. A home is removed from the list at the request of the homeowner or when the home becomes vacant or inaccessible. The addresses in a monitoring schedule pool may change in order to continue to provide accurate overview reporting of our water quality.
The results of our tests are published annually in our Water Quality Reports on July 1. The reports have been submitted to and approved by DEP. The Water Quality Reports webpage even includes an interactive map. This allows you to enter your address and the map will provide you with the water quality report for your area. Hard copies of the reports can be mailed to you by calling our customer service center at 407-944-5000 or by sending an email to customerservice@tohowater.com.
