Alert: protect yourself from scams

Toho employee wearing branded reflective attire, identification badge, holding a clipboard leans against a toho water authority branded truck

Toho Water Authority (Toho) is committed to protecting our customers from fraudulent activity. Please be aware of ongoing scams falsely claiming to represent utility companies. Review the following information to help safeguard yourself and your property.

 Identification

  • All Toho employees and authorized contractors are required to wear official Toho identification badges.
  • Toho employees drive Toho branded vehicles and wear Toho branded attire.
  • Authorized contractor vehicles display signage indicating they are a Toho contractor. Toho has contracted with companies such as National Metering Services and Frank Gay.

Visits to your property

  • Toho employees/contractors do not visit properties to engage in sales tactics, request payments, or ask to look at your utility bill.
  • Visits are mainly conducted during business hours: Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • After-hour visits are conducted at the customer’s request or for water-related emergencies.

Payments

  • Toho employees and contractors do not accept payments.
  • Customers can pay through:
    • Toho’s authorized online payment portal on tohowater.com
    • Toho’s automated telephone payment system at 407-944-5000 or 407-957-7344
    • U.S. mail by check or money order
    • In person at Amscot or Moneygram participating locations
  • Disconnection notices will always be sent via mail and phone call. Any demand for payment at your door is a scam.
  • Toho will not ask for your bank account details unsolicited.

How to stay safe

  • If someone comes to your door claiming to be from Toho or working with Toho:
    • Ask to see a valid ID badge.
    • Do not open the door if it is after business hours or if you do not have a scheduled appointment.
    • Contact Toho Water Authority immediately at 407-944-5000 to verify their identity and visit purpose.
  • Never give out personal or financial information to anyone who contacts you unsolicited.
  • Don’t click on links or open attachments in suspicious emails or texts

In most cases, scammers will leave when you inform them that you are calling Toho to confirm their identity.

Stay alert. Stay informed. Stay safe.
If you have questions or need to report suspicious activity, please call 407-944-5000.
